Old Town Alexandria is a charming and historic gem just outside of Washington, D.C., where cobblestone streets are lined with beautifully preserved buildings from centuries past. Tucked among these historic landmarks is the elegant Carlyle House, a must-see location for visitors—and an even more magical setting for intimate celebrations.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a private elopement in the Carlyle House gardens, and it was nothing short of enchanting. The couple chose to keep their ceremony deeply personal, with access to the garden reserved exclusively for invited guests. This created an intimate and serene atmosphere, perfect for capturing authentic and emotional moments.
The garden itself is a stunning backdrop, featuring lush greenery and a charming gazebo that served as the focal point for the ceremony. Even when a light rain began just before the vows, the gazebo and surrounding trees offered enough cover to keep everyone comfortable. Luckily, the rain let up halfway through, allowing us to explore the grounds and take advantage of the multiple scenic backdrops the property has to offer.
Whether you're planning an engagement session, an elopement, or a small wedding, the Carlyle House provides a picturesque setting full of character and romance.
Parking Tips: There is limited street parking available nearby, but a public parking garage is conveniently located right across the street.
